Building great content can now get you to the very top of Google without worrying about competition from other sites! How? Through Google’s new “Search Wiki” capability. Recently announced, it provides
a way for you to customize search by re-ranking, deleting, adding, and commenting on search results.
You can move the results you like to the very top or add a new site. You can also write notes attached to a particular site and remove results that you don’t like. The impact for your online business? Build a loyal audience and your customers will do this to your site. How cool is that?
Plus, whatever your clients end up shifting around will stay that way for future searches. So, like bookmarking (but even better) you could forever “live” at the very top and continue to build that customer loyalty indefinitely. Note: SearchWiki is available to signed-in Google users.
SearchWiki also has another benefit – both for you and your clients: it can be shared with other searchers. This community dynamic takes it a step further because you can employ the collectively edited search results by clicking on the “See all notes for this SearchWiki” link. That’s cool too.
“This is a way for search to adapt to a more interactive experience,” says Google Product Manager Cedric Dupont. “We ran a bunch of experiments, and the response was overwhelmingly positive from our users. They asked for this feature.”
In terms of SEO Implications, Google emphasizes that changes made in the SearchWiki interface will have no impact on the traditional ranking of web pages. Will user data from SearchWiki someday impact regular search rankings? Perhaps. Time will tell, but chances are good.
How does this impact SEO copywriting? It basically means that building that relationship with your customers, whether its through your blog, through online contests, through PPC or even offline activities, is more important than ever. You want them to place your site at the top! Through Google’s SearchWiki this now is possible.
